Car Pool offer to 9/12

August 31, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Uncategorized

From our pal Dennis:

I am planning on driving up to 9/12 sometime on Friday September 10 and wanted to know if anyone wanted to carport and/or caravan to somewhere in Virginia late Friday evening and get a room. Then get up in morning and ride the Metro into Washington for the event. I went on the bus last year and would rather go myself with a small group since it took me a week to get over the trip. So if you are interest call or email me at 864-680-3044 or freeclink@aol.com.

Caleb Howe at Redstate reports on the somewhat highly publicized “calling out” by James Cameron of the global warming skeptics and the ridiculous and pathetically cowardly way he backed out at the last minute.

Read Caleb’s account and you’ll delight in how Ann McElhinney (producer of the Anti-Gore documentary Not Evil Just Wrong) who is truly a hero among the Globally Sane kept agreeing to more and more tactics that Cameron put forth until he simply had no place to hide and canceled his big showdown.

About 5 years ago I decided that I would no longer support either financially or with attendance figures the work of people employed in the entertainment industry who I assessed to be tearing down America by either their work product or by abusing the opportunity their job gave them to have a microphone and spew their inane beliefs. “Beliefs” … cause they never had to back up their blathering with facts or documents or sources or actual experience. I wasn’t censoring them, I wasn’t denigrating their work product, it was just my personal boycott. Yes I’ve missed some good movies, and perhaps there are a few holes in my music collection of CDs that I’d enjoy listening to on long car trips. There are probably a few books that I’ll never have the joy of the “aha” moment in discovering the key to an intricate plot line, and I’ve been a bit lost in some pop culture water cooler discussions about certain TV series. And my lack of patronage has had zero impact on any of those artists. The only positive impact has been on my conscience.

I imagine the impact that an all out boycott by all the awakened patriots would have on the entertainment industry. I ponder how awesome it would be to see their products go unread/unwatched/unlistened to because we are so angry at how they’ve taken advantage of their public pulpit to besmirch American values. I think gleefully of a scenario where … like Newsweek being sold for a dollar … these artists come to understand just how little we value the shills they have become. But I know that will not be happening. It is hard to deny ourselves the escapism pleasure, especially in these turbulent times.

So I’ll just do the happy dance at James Cameron making a cowardly, hypocritical idiot of himself this weekend, and continue to pass up the opportunity to enrich and reward the egos of those I consider … yes I’m saying it … anti-American.

Haley Barbour … I mention him when asked about my 2012 thoughts

August 19, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National, Uncategorized

Politico writers Jim Vandehei, Andy Barr, and Kenneth P. Vogel do an assessment of Haley Barbour calling him “The most powerful Republican in politics.”

Read the article and find out why. This is one of the reasons he’s on my “watch” list …

At the moment, Barbour’s power is derived from his ability to tilt gubernatorial and statehouse races with his RGA funds. These races might not be as sexy as some of the star-studded races for Senate or as dramatic as the battle for control of the House. Yet they could prove even more important over the long haul because they will create the next generation of Republican leaders — and set the terms for the decennial redrawing of House seats.

thanks from Dr. Dan

I remember the day that the sub-human, despicable creature called Bart Stupak caved (shock) and you and I began funding abortions with our tax dollars. It was a dark and gut-wrenching day.

So in an effort to “kick the darkness ’til it bleeds daylight” (TY Bruce Cockburn) I found Dan Benishek’s website that day and donated money. Not a lot. Just a way of keeping my sanity that day. Most of us can’t strike as hard or as often as we want to against the truly evil among us, so we must relish the “take THAT!” moments.

The blogsphere and the good people in Michigan rallied and this week Dr. Dan become the Republican candidate to run for Stupak’s seat. NOW PAY ATTENTION HERE … the night of the primary, Tuesday night at 1 am with all votes counted, Dr. Dan was ahead by … 1 vote. I’ll let you create your own GOTV speech from that to share with your friends/neighbors.

So … here is Dr. Dan, thanking US for making this happen. As you will see from this video, he’s a regular guy, one of us, who has just had enough.

A small bit of good news on judicial front

August 10, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Uncategorized

ObamaWatchNews notes that 2 of Obama’s judicial nominees for federal bench in California have been sent back and will likely not be confirmed.

Under a rarely invoked rule, the Senate must agree to carry over pending nominations when it goes on a 30-day recess. But Republican leaders objected to carrying over several disputed nominees, including Liu and Chen.
