It sort of came and went without any fanfare, but the Spartanburg Tea Party just passed its one year anniversary this month. Hard to believe it has been one full year since we posted our very first article. But when we look back at all the growth we have experienced, it’s equally difficult to believe we packed all of it into just one year!

We’ve had more than 13,000 unique visitors to our site in the past year and our articles have been read nearly 50,000 times over with an average 4,000 hits per month. We’ve been visited by folks in all 50 states and from several countries. We’ve received attention from national media on several occasions. We have now had two presidential campaigns contact us for meetings.

This is all because of YOU!! Together we are making an impact. Now give yourself a little pat on the back and let’s get back to work… 2012 is coming!!

This is one of my wishes … that conservatives in America will take up the challenge to Buy Red. To support with your dollars companies … entertainers … states … industries … advertisers … any opportunity to support conservative principles with the dollars you spend. And … conversely … to starve those that support the progressives.

There used to be a website called Buy Blue which was an online consumers’ guide designed to help progressives in the United States choose brands that favored their politics. It is now defunct, but I ran across someone on Twitter who had captured the info in 2005 and blogged it … from the Buy Red perspective. Right Wing Troll brings us this list of companies which support conservatives. I don’t think the blog is currently active, but the list remains.

I urge you to “go there” … go there in deciding how you spend your monies in every possible consumer transaction. Then “go there” when you decide what movies to support, what CDs to purchase, where you vacation … it’s not as exhilarating as standing shoulder to shoulder in a march on DC, but it may, in the long run, accomplish even more if we can move the majority to use their finances to fight the progressives.

I’m going to include the LONG list “below the fold” … I’m pointing this out assuming the original blog was credible, it seems to be.

Another shocking, sad story this weekend. Reasonable people across American mourn. It is probably true that the majority of Americans simply mourned without politicizing the despicable actions of one lone, mentally-ill man with a history of dangerous words/actions, some directed at his Congressional representative. With the authorities having 2 days to investigate the man, this is what has emerged.

Not so much of a shock was the immediate and sustained hysterical hatred based on NO FACTS that occurred on the blogosphere and the main stream media in the past two days blaming the Tea Party, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh … you know the score. The MSM will do what they do until there are conservatives who make it their goal in life to restore integrity to journalism and take back that industry. Our rage at their irresponsibility and intentional lying about us will have to be channeled into doing what we need to do to elect conservatives at every level of government and to every political entity.

Michelle Malkin reminds us … and the media should they deign to notice … of the recent “climate of hate” lest we have forgotten. Tuck it away, and resolve to stay steady, keep calm, and work hard.

This letter to the editor posted at Salon gives us insight into what some Americans intend to do with any act of violence by any madman in today’s climate of hate.

The point is that this is an opportunity for us on the Left to demonize the Right and emphasize the extent to which they hate America. You are right that it’s immaterial whether Loughner was a conservative or a liberal (and it seems he was neither), but what is critical is that conservatives in this country have created a political culture that – in effect though not in intent – finds its culmination in the shooting of Giffords. The Left has nothing to do with the creation of that political culture of violence: it’s entirely the product of the conservative / Tea Party movement.

Tuck it away, and resolve to stay steady, keep calm, and work hard.

And then, let this renew and inspire you … the father of the youngest shooting victim labeled Loughner’s rampage a “random act” and said that the death of his daughter should not be exploited to revoke freedoms. (Audio at the link)

In another interview, he also states, “This shouldn’t happen in this country, or anywhere else, but in a free society, we’re going to be subject to people like this. I prefer this to the alternative.”

For his sake, for his bravery and reasonableness in his time of mourning resolve to stay steady, keep calm, and work hard.

Erick Erickson lays it out simply at Redstate … one of your best chances in having your voice heard in the GOP overall is to start by becoming a precinct delegate. Precinct reorganization takes place this quarter in Spartanburg County, and we’ll be having speakers and demonstrations at our upcoming January and February meetings. Please begin planning now to step up to this responsibility and begin chatting with your friends/neighbors about becoming involved. Take a read of Erick’s article …

Friends, in 2010 the tea party movement led outside the GOP. This year the tea party should take over the GOP. It is very easy. All you need to do is pick up the phone, find out where your precinct meeting will be, and show up with your friends. That begins the process of necessary change.

Below is information about the Constitution Classes we are facilitating monthly, on the last Saturday of the month, at the downtown branch of the library. The classes will be held in the Barrett Room from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m.; the address is 151 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. We will be using a self-study course based on the book The 5,000 Year Leap which is a series of video lessons taught by Earl Taylor, Jr., the President of the National Center for Constitutional Studies.

The book focused on the 28 fundamental beliefs of the Founding Fathers which they said must be understood and perpetuated by every people who desired peace, prosperity, and freedom. These beliefs have made possible more progress in 200 years than was made previously in over 5,000 years. Thus the title “The 5,000 Year Leap”.

There is no charges for these classes. We will have the book “The 5,000 Year Leap” available to sell at the classes for $6.00/book. We will cover two lessons each session (we will meet monthly on the last Saturday of the month at the Barrett Room, pending availability). Each video lesson will run 40 minutes, after which we’ll have a 20 minute discussion, and then a second video and a second 20 minute discussion. We’ll give you handouts at the beginning of the class to help you watch for the “learning objectives” for each session.

The video lessons look at the Founding Fathers’ reliance on both Biblical principles and the lessons of world history in writing the Constitution, and how the 28 principles noted in the book have lead to the exceptionalism of America. The lessons are detailed, but easy to understand, and will appeal both to history buffs as well as folks … like myself … taking another look at the Constitution and American history for the first time since high school civics.

Here is a video excerpt from one of the classes so you can see the course level and style.

Because we have to order 5,000 Year Leap books for you, and in order to ascertain interest in the Constitution Classes, please go here and sign up … OR … email me directly at info@spartanburgteaparty.org to sign up and/or ask questions about the class.

The folks in Texas continue to fight daily up to the vote on January 11 to defeat RINO Joe Straus as Speaker. Here is another amazing ad produced by Women on the Wall. Individuals and liberty groups have been visiting their representatives at their local offices, speaking to them about Straus’ appointment of more liberal Dems than conservative Republicans during his last stint as Speaker. The vote is January 11, and however it ends up, the folks in Texas are learning a lot and teaching us all how to work a campaign like this. The bottom line is … the Republican primaries in 2012. Enjoy the video!

Below is a post I wrote last New Year’s Eve over at Redstate. The Spartanburg Tea Party didn’t exist this time last year, and I occasionally posted some thoughts at that site. Still do, actually. I do remember the despair I felt as I wrote it. It was just a week after the traitorous health care vote on Christmas Eve. I truly believed at times that we would never come back from the tyranny, but I held out some small hope and put down my thoughts. Here’s what I wrote … please use the comments section to share your thoughts this New Year’s Eve.

++++++++++++++

December 31, 2009 … What was I doing last year on New Year’s Eve? I can’t remember. Not for reasons that have anything to do with imbibing adult beverages. I’m just not a big fan of the Auld Lang Syne, let’s recap the year, top 100 list of, blah blah blah. No family parties. Usually no special celebrations. Perhaps I had stocked up on snacks and was watching a few movies that I missed during the year. OH! And calming down my border collie who suffers from loud noise trauma. Darn those fireworks!

There are some New Year’s Eves past that I do remember of course. A grand “dress to the nines” corporate event I was invited to, complete with horn blowers and balloon drop. The year my then boyfriend’s band had a gig at a local establishment. The Y2K watch, that was some fun eh?

I am quite certain, though, that I will remember this year’s New Year’s Eve next year. Not so much for any big parties or plans. I will either be heartsick, mournfully and regretfully remembering the last NYE that I had some expectation that good would triumph, being mistakenly hopeful that we could elect enough local and national conservative candidates to STOP the destruction of our economy, health care system, and national defense …

OR

I/we will be celebrating the end of a long year of hard work during which Americans stood up against tyranny, many conservative candidates were elected through sacrificial funding and campaigning, and our nation is finally on the verge of fragilely yet steadily regaining personal liberties and economic balance in anticipation of the reemergence of free market capitalism bolstered by a return of representative governing.

And I may be gleefully celebrating the devastation that we had delivered to all those politicians and media slimes we despise so much, and their special interest suck ups. OH PLEASE LET ME BE DOING THE HAPPY DANCE NEXT New Year’s Eve!!~!~!~~!~

Yes, the PRO-amnesty folks were 5 votes short of the 60 needed. But I can pick several NO votes that could’ve gone the other way. And if any two had done so — especially if they had done so a couple of weeks ago — at least three other votes would have gone with them and we would have lost.

The incredible efforts of ordinary citizens like you, communicating with those key Senate offices, saved the country from a nightmare this morning.
