Chatting with Alan Wilson, candidate for Attorney General

June 19, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Statewide Races, Tea Party

Alan Wilson asked to speak with some of the Upcountry Coalition of Conservative Organization folks today after the event at the Beacon. He wanted to give us the opportunity to ask him about his campaign, his view of the role of Attorney General, how he will fight the ever encroaching federal government, what his plans are for reforming and refining the current system of law enforcement and prosecution in SC.

Alan was candid about every issue we asked him about, and we are not an easy group to engage with! We let him know that protection from the federal government and issues of state sovereignty were our biggest concerns and we wanted our next Attorney General to boldly lead and battle for those rights. We talked about his military service, his career as a prosecutor, his opponent in the runoff election Tuesday … and we talked about his dad, Joe Wilson and the Jake Knotts situation. In fact, that was our lead off topic, the one we knew would pose an emotional obstacle to many people who know that Jake Knotts and the Wilson family have been political sojourners for quite a while.

Joe was at the Beacon earlier today and I asked him directly about Jake Knotts. Joe told me that not only did he call on Jake to apologize, but also to resign. Now I have the press release with Joe’s statement, which can also be found here in this story at wltx.com But I also thought I had seen another story where Joe did indeed ask for Jake’s resignation. And since … fairly or not … Alan is tied to his dad in many eyes, we wanted to express how important it was to voters on Tuesday that both Alan and Joe were on record calling for Jake’s resignation.

So … Here is the link to the audio file of Joe Wilson on the Keven Cohen Show out of Columbia. Just scroll down to the Joe Wilson interview. Between the 14:15 and 15:30 mark is where Joe and Keven discuss Jake Knotts. Joe does indeed call for Jake Knotts to resign.

I’m convinced after our discussion with Alan and hearing directly from him of his and Joe’s completely denouncement of Jake Knotts (and hearing from Alan how ugly Jake acted toward their family after the denouncement) that we can have confidence in Alan to fight the feds, improve our SC legal system, and become one of the new conservative patriots we need to reform SC.

(The deal was sealed for me when Alan told us that he was looking forward to his post-election vacation in … ARIZONA! … Picked because his family was supporting AZ’s economy in light of the boycotts by those who are against the new immigration law out there)

*Action Alert* … Bill Connor and Nikki Haley need our help

June 10, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Statewide Races, Tea Party

Below is an email from Bill’s campaign, I’m sure the same points would be made from Nikki’s campaign. If anyone would be willing to wave signs for Bill or Nikki the next 2 weeks, call me at 864.384.7558, I’ll go with! I have several Nikki signs I can pass out, and Bill’s campaign says it’s OK to take a yard sign from the roadside and go to a busy intersection to wave. Let’s not tire of doing good …

We made it to the runoffs. Thank you for all of your support and dedication. We would not have made it to this point without your help. With that said, these next two weeks leading up to the runoffs on June 22nd are going to be the busiest and roughest weeks of the campaign thus far. And we need your help! Like before, we will be outspent, but we will not be outworked. We will win with the support of South Carolinians such as yourself. If you can help with any of the following please let me know and I will help coordinate to get you materials, addresses, phone numbers, etc.

1. Get out the vote – tell 10 people you know about Bill Connor and why they should vote for him on the 22nd. And have them call 10 people they know.
2. Phone Banks – you do not have to come into the office to do this. I can email you a list and a script and you can call on your own time. Tell me what area of SC you would like to call and how many names you can call.
3. Sign Waving – go to the busiest intersection in your county from either 7am-9am or from 4pm-6pm. We are currently out of signs. If you have one in your yard or know one somewhere, just take it up and put it back when you are done.
4. Door to Door – go to your local neighborhoods and go from house to house and hand out fliers.
5. Attend Events – go to GOP and community events and talk to people about Lt. Colonel Connor and hand out fliers. I will be sending out emails and updating facebook with events. If I overlook a local community event, please let me know and I will try to get people to them as well. Also, a good place to attend to hand out fliers are local flea markets. If you like going to these, next time you go, take some fliers with you and hand out to the people there.
6. Office help – we do need help in the office with sending out mail and other various tasks. I will let people know before hand of when we need people in the office and for what reason.
7. Vote on June 22nd – this is by far the most important way to help. Please remember that the polls open at 7am and close at 7pm on Tuesday June 22.

If you need the flier that we hand out, let me know and I will email you a copy of the pdf file of the flier. Thank you so much for your help and God Bless.

Thoughts on endorsing Bill Connor

March 20, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Statewide Races, Tea Party

Hopefully you all take the opportunity to read the candidate info on their websites posted on the right side of the STP webpage. I wanted to provide info on many candidates running in our local and statewide races so we can be informed voters, and have the opportunity to access the candidates through their sites to ask questions or get more info from them.

As mentioned in the past, the Spartanburg Tea Party is a member of the Upcountry Coalition of Conservative Organizations. The Coalition has suggested that we ask the members of our organizations if they would be comfortable with a Coalition endorsement of Bill Connor in the race for Lt Governor. The consensus of the folks in the meetings is that he is the most conservative candidate, with values aligned to the Tea Party movement.

So … please use the comment section to express your feelings on this matter, thanks.

Repeal It!

March 01, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National, Statewide Races

The Club for Growth has a website where lawmakers, candidates, and citizens can sign a pledge to repeal any federal health care takeover that may be passed…

“I hereby pledge that if any federal health care takeover is passed in 2010, I will support – with my time, money, and vote – only candidates who pledge to support its repeal and replacement with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government.”

The candidates in our area who have signed this pledge are:
Jim Lee – SC04
Richard Cash – SC03
Jeff Duncan – SC03
Shane Massey – SC03

Go see the complete list of lawmakers and candidates who are on board, and sign the citizens’ pledge!
