WIN for a stay-at-home mom vs. chicago political machine

July 21, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National, Statehouse Races, Tea Party

The short story … Cedra Crenshaw is running for Illinois State Senator. Her campaign’s signature gathering was challenged by Sen. Arthur Wilhelmi under some shady circumstances. Today the court ruled in her favor and she is back on the ballot! A great victory for a grassroots candidate!

The Millwood Dilemma

June 21, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Statehouse Races

In the morning, the voters of House District 38 will have to make a choice between Joey Millwood and Doug Brannon.

If you are looking for a reason to vote against Representative Joey Millwood, you are certain to find plenty. You won’t find any good reasons to vote against Millwood where his voting record is concerned. When it comes to his votes, he has been a good and consistent conservative representative for District 38 in Columbia.

Any reason to vote against Joey, is purely based on the fact that he has behaved (a bit too frequently) in an immature manner, a manner not becoming of a representative of the people.

There are plenty of people in Spartanburg who want Joey Millwood gone, and quite frankly his detractors would likely support Charles Manson over Millwood. Let’s look at who they are supporting:

Trial attorney (of the ambulance chasing variety) Doug Brannon.

Doug Brannon represented the defendant in one of the worst child abuse cases ever, where the child was handcuffed and nearly starved to death. There are MANY despicable cases where Brannon has defended the worst of the worst among us. How can anyone who typically represents those sort of people represent all of us?

Brannon has stated the Arizona immigration law is unconstitutional and he would not support such in SC.

Brannon is in favor of assisted suicide, so he will not side with those who are pro-life.

Bottom line, anyone supporting such a person as Brannon cannot be of good moral character. If you are okay with starving children to death, then by all means, support and vote for Brannon. What Brannon does for a living, makes Millwood’s immature antics seem pretty small and insignificant. Would it not be better to give Millwood a chance to grow up?

AND, for those who believe Millwood is an embarrassment to the Spartanburg Delegation, just wait for the fodder we’ll have with the likes of Brannon.

Project Vote Smart

March 09, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Statehouse Races, Training/Resources

While posting Tom Corbin’s Press Release I thought this would be a good time to share a tool I’ve been using to “vet” incumbents. Project Vote Smart has a ton of info on your representatives, including contact info, voting records, finances, and one of the most helpful … Interest Group Ratings.

This link I’ve given you above leads to the incumbent in the seat Tom is running for, Harry Cato. Take a look at some of the categories listed and see, for example, under “Conservative” how the Club for Growth rates Harry. Other categories include gun issues, education, environment, and business. If you have researched interest groups who are aligned with your principles, you can use that to determine how aligned a candidate may be to your ideal.

This is a decision that was made after much thought, prayer and discussions with my family. An elected official must be dedicated to making good decisions for the community and the people he represents. He must be accessible, as well as in touch with the issues and needs within his district. I believe I have these qualities, and combined with what really motivates me, my family, you can count on me to do my very best for our communities.

I believe that my years of experience as a small businessman, and my experience in life, and community service have prepared me for the hard work ahead required from a campaign such as this. However, I cannot do it alone. I’m very proud to have my wife, Leann, supporting me in this decision. Now we ask for your vote, your prayers and your support.

Please join me in my campaign kickoff. If you are interested in helping me further with my campaign, please contact me by cell phone, or by e-mail, both listed below my signature. My door is always open and I look forward to hear from you in the near future.

Thank you so much for your time, and I thank you in advance for your support!
