According to an article by Carrie Budoff Brown of the Politico, Graham and Schumer are busy laying the groundwork for “comprehensive immigration reform” which is code for “amnesty.” The reform which is needed is to actually acknowledge the word “illegal” when attached to the word “immigration” and enforce the freaking law!

How on earth could they believe this will fly?

Democrats believe the November elections put a bit of a scare into Republicans, who failed to capture the Senate in part because of strong Latino turnout in California, Nevada, Colorado and Washington. If the GOP hopes to win the White House in 2012, it will need to reverse that trend.

Yes, many of them do think that way but it is amazing that this same article points out:

Naturally, supporters of a comprehensive overhaul are hopeful but realistic. Some were reluctant to even talk about the preliminary discussions, saying publicity about their delicate efforts could prove harmful.

As much as the liberals want to paint a rosy picture, they know the Tea Party is still paying attention and they know the Tea Party was responsible for turning over Congress and they know the Senate is going to take hard hits in 2012 and 2014.

So, who else is going along with this? Senator John McCain will play ball on this if border security is accomplished first. Other groups on board are not surprising (Service Employees International Union and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), but what about the “conservative evangelicals” the article claims are on board?

“Conservatives are hacked off with Schumer for so many reasons,” said the Rev. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, who supports comprehensive immigration reform. “Both carry baggage. There need to be some new faces that carry” the issue, such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

Not only are they trying to gain the support of Rubio, they are also going back after Lisa Murkowski of Alaska who voted for the DREAM Act and they believe South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham is just the person to lock all this up.

Graham’s return gives the discussion a bipartisan sheen that it has lacked since last April, when he dropped out of the talks, angered by Reid’s decision to move an immigration bill ahead of a climate change bill.

How about those priorities? The Global Warming Scam… sorry… Climate Change should obviously be more important than granting amnesty, right? Well how about this for a claim; Illegal Immigration is greatly contributing to Global Warming. Just imagine how much we could reduce carbon emissions in this country if we have 15 – 20 million less people! Save the planet and deport them now!

So just how far along is this Comprehensive Immigration Reform?

“It’s in the infant stage,” Graham told POLITICO. “I don’t know what the political appetite is to do something.”

Rand Paul (Ky.) and David Vitter (La.) are introducing a resolution this week that would amend the Constitution so that a person born in the United States could only become an American citizen if one or more of his or her parents is an legal citizen, legal immigrant, or member of the armed forces, according to a joint press release Thursday.

“Citizenship is a privilege, and only those who respect our immigration laws should be allowed to enjoy its benefits,” Paul said. “This legislation makes it necessary that everyone follow the rules, and goes through same process to become a U.S. citizen.”

The resolution is part of a larger bundle of immigration bills that Vitter introduced at the beginning of the 112th Congress.

The project, being run by Boeing Co, has cost about $1 billion so far and was meant to pull together video cameras, radar, sensors and other technologies to detect smugglers trying to cross the porous border.

“The SBInet program has been a grave and expensive disappointment since its inception,” Representative Bennie Thompson, the senior Democrat on the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, said in a statement which noted that the Department of Homeland Security was ending the project.

Thompson said that nearly $1 billion had been spent for only 53 miles of coverage in the project that started during the administration of former President George W. Bush.

After suffering a major legal setback in the summer, Arizona regained its footing in court Friday when a federal judge dismissed parts of the U.S. Justice Department’s challenge to the state’s new immigration law and rejected several claims made by Hispanic activists and Phoenix police officers.
