That’s what H. 3045 seems to be saying. According to the folks at GrassRoots Gun Rights, H. 3405 will be discussed on Thursday, January 27, at 9:00 am in room 511 of the Blatt Building in a meeting of the House Judiciary General Laws Subcommittee. Please attend that session if you can be in Columbia on Thursday. This bill …

… would let “any other elected or appointed public official” – that means politicians – who possesses a CWP to carry a self-defense firearm anywhere in the state. But, this bill will NOT allow YOU same freedom! H. 3405 is nothing more than a self serving bill that proves that politicians think their lives are more important than your life or the lives of your family!

H. 3405 will allow politicians to carry in schools, restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages, churches, day care facilities, high school and college football games, publicly owned buildings, court houses and court rooms, private residences without permission, and even into posted businesses! But, H. 3405 will do NOTHING for you!

H. 3405 is another example of how politicians seem to forget the fact that they are public servants, not our lords and masters. Why should public servants have greater privileges than you? Isn’t your life and your family’s life just as important as the life of a politician?

Here is what the GrassRoots GunRights folks suggest as Action Items:

1) Call each member of the House General Laws Subcommittee and tell them the following:

“I strongly urge you to Vote NO on H. 3405! No special privileges for public officials! If it’s good enough for YOU, it’s good enough for ME. GrassRoots GunRights speaks for me!”

2) Email each member of House General Laws Subcommittee with the same message:

“Dear Representative (INSERT NAME):

I strongly urge you to Vote NO on H. 3405! No special privileges for public officials! If it’s good enough for YOU, it’s good enough for ME. GrassRoots GunRights speaks for me! Sincerely,

If you are unable to reach any of these Representatives at their individual office numbers listed above, call the House Judiciary Committee (803) 734-3120 and ask to be transferred.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has requested information from the Department of Homeland Security over a reported practice of investigating the politics of those seeking government records through Freedom of Information Act requests.

The Associated Press reported in July that for at least a year, Homeland Security had sidetracked hundreds of requests for federal records to top political advisers to the department’s secretary, Janet Napolitano. The political appointees wanted information about those requesting the materials, and in some cases the release of documents considered politically sensitive was delayed, according to numerous e-mails that were obtained by the AP.

Now what I read from that is that citizens and perhaps organizations who requested information via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) were being scrutinized by “political appointees” for their political leanings. Kinda one of those sentences hard to type and harder to believe … well at least 2 years ago it would have been. Now … just a chilling reality.

Ed ends his article thusly:

DHS denies that they vetted requests for political leanings, but only for “grammatical and other errors” and to alert high-ranking DHS officials of potential controversies. Issa’s probe will hopefully settle the issue. It’s long past time that Congress exercise its oversight responsibilities, and probing an alleged attack on openness in government is an excellent place to start.

C’mon Issa … let’s see the outrage, let’s see the exposure.

This is similar to the Montana law, which was signed into law, then overturned by a federal judge, but is under appeal.

“If the gun is made here and used here, I don’t know how the Commerce Clause can regulate it … The Constitution gives us the right to bear arms, but it doesn’t limit rights,” Bright said. “There’s a lot of bills challenging federal authority, not just from me, but from other legislators around the country.”

Tina Korby, writing at Heritage.org lets us know that Rep. Blackburn plans to begin the fight to review, block, and if necessary defund the FCC’s power grab of the Internet this week.

“What we will do is first use this as a way to show how we’re going to keep that Pledge to America,” she said yesterday at The Heritage Foundation. “We said in the Pledge that any rule or regulation that had more than $100 million impact on our nation’s economy would be subject to review. … This is an area where we can keep that Pledge. We can go ahead and start congressional review and move forward on getting this off the books.”

“We’re going to have numerous amendments to defund plenty of things in the House to keep money from going where they would like for money to be going, whether it is health care, whether it is the FCC, whether it is the EPA implementing cap-and-trade under the Clean Air Act. You’re going to see a series of amendments that would defund those activities that we view as being harmful to free enterprise and the American people.”

Jim DeMint has also been very vocal about his determination to fight the FCC on this issue.

Tigerhawk brings us this message from Brian Aitken:

    Hi Everyone,

I wanted to briefly thank a few people individually for all of their hard work–and I couldn’t think of a better place to do so than here (my very own Facebook Page, crazy)!

Governor Christie, thank you. Seriously. I understand the risk you assume while making any decision that affects the People of New Jersey and that this was no trivial decision for you. In the days and years that will come to pass I am positive you will find yourself proud of your decision… and if you heard that quote about me running against you for President; I was just kidding.

Dennis Malloy, thank you. You’ve helped deliver an amazing gift this Christmas for a very loving and deserving family. I wouldn’t be typing these words right now if it wasn’t for you.

Richard Gilbert & Evan Nappen, thank you. You’ve been amazing counsel through this all and I’m proud to have you represent me in this case.

To the 15,000+ Facebook supporters, thank you. To each and every person who wrote the Governor, thank you. To each and every person who wrote to me and sent me hope… thank you.

To the Soldiers, Airmen, and Marines who wrote me from overseas – thank you for your kind words and your dedication to our country. The work you do amasses a debt that can never be repaid and I am humbled that you supported me from bases and War Zones around the globe. Thank you.

Lastly, thank you to my family, friends and beautiful fiancee. I’m lucky to have you all in my life.

There is a great deal of work yet to be done but, in the meantime, I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas.

    My very best,

    Brian D. Aitken

(with a postscript from Tigerhawk)
And, of course, we are all grateful to the American Civil Liberties Union for standing up for Brian’s rights under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.

Oh, wait. My bad.

Chris Christie is currently considering a pardon for Brian. I URGE YOU to visit these links, get yourself up to speed, and calmly and politely contact Chris Christie (details to be found in these links, including a Facebook page) and urge him to pardon Brian. It’s a good Christmas deed to do, and won’t take much time.

David Rittgers has an outline of the story.

Radley Balko with the long version.

Now go and do a Santa thing.
