Update on today’s H3101 hearing
There were TONS of people, a packed room at the committee hearing for H3101, the bill to protect South Carolina from the enforcement of Obamacare. Here are a few notes I culled from Facebook and Twitter.
John Steinberger @FairTaxJohn
A USC law professor is trying to tie #Nullify Obamacare with states which tried to infringe on constitutionally protected civil rights.
Daniel Encarnacion
Chairman Delleney: What if we nullify ObamaCare and The President declares us in a state of rebellion? Do you think you’re going to get your Social Security checks?
Curt Olson @thenerve_curt
Rep. Delleney said SC can engage in lawful resistance of Ocare. … H3473 achieves that, he says
Curt Olson @thenerve_curt
Retired Emory Univ professor of philosophy of law says pepl, not SCOTUS has final say.

“When you say you took an oath to the Constitution, I would ask, which one”? — Donald Livingston
First hand account:
Did not get done and they will hold another comm mtg to take more testimony. Const. Prof from USC spoke for a long time as to why nullification is unconstitutional. another Prof from somewhere spoke on behalf of nullification was treated with arrogance and condescending questions from comm to the point of “Oh so basically secession is what you want” to which he replied NO. And so it went from there.

There were many of the usual characters of the grassroots liberty movement present yesterday for Kibuki Theater in Columbia. I venture to say that to a person they would all characterize the proceedings as perfunctory at best and condescending at worst.
The subcommittee’s worst offenders, in my opinion, were Reps. McLeod and Smith. The most illuminating statement by any of the subcommittee’s members was by Rep. Quinn: “…I’m the only member of the subcommitee that is not a lawyer…”

All this shows is the Republican party needs to throw out all the RINO’s who do not follow the RNC pledge they take when they become a party member. If not we need a third party. You cannot continue to let moderates control the party and not follow the pledge or platform that is the problem and until you have someone at the state and/or national party standup and enforce or push this we will continue to have little or no voice at any government level.

The most provocative statements from the subcommittee were the references to the US military coming in to kill those who oppose Obamacare. The scare tactics were very insulting. Do they expect us to believe that if we pass a nullification bill Obama will send in his drones to take us out? “The practical argument is … Obamacare, has the full force and support of the United States government and all that comes with that, the US army included, and that’s just a matter of fact. – Rep Greg Delleney
