Republican senators back Democrat in House race

AP reporter DONNA CASSATA writes this brief story.

Before you go any further … GUESS what senator she’s writing about.

A longtime House Democrat struggling to win against a fellow Democrat in California has picked up an unlikely endorsement: the backing of two Senate Republicans.

Rep. Howard Berman faces Rep. Brad Sherman in November thanks to the redrawing of congressional boundaries and California’s primary system.

Two of the GOP’s leading lawmakers on national security – Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham – along with independent Sen. Joe Lieberman announced Monday that they are backing Berman, the top Democrat on House Foreign Affairs Committee.

McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, called Berman a “man of determination and honor.” Graham said Berman knows how to work on a bipartisan basis.

Berman also is supported by Democratic California Gov. Jerry Brown and the state’s two Democratic senators – Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein.

I was mad when I read the headline, but then I read the article. Let’s see…two Dems in a race, one is a pro-Israel Dem that works well with Repubs, the other is not. (that’s about all I could gather from the article)

What’s the problem with an endorsement in this case? There is NO Repub in the race. It makes sense to support the one who you think you can work with, doesn’t it?

Of course, I learned recently that I’m not a “true Repub” because I have Dem friends (gasp).

I must admit that I haven’t had the time or inclination to dig into this CA race. If so many Electoral College votes were not involved I would ignore the state entirely, as it seems to enjoy being the launch pad for ultra-liberal political ideas.

When I see McCain, Graham, Lieberman, Boxer and Feinstein mentioned together doing anything besides playing bridge or golf, I am concerned. When they are circling the wagons together to support anyone or anything, I am fearful.

This, my friends, is called politics. I’d much prefer to spend time illuminating and criticizing their wrong-headed policy positions than which of two democrats they endorse. That’s a far more rich and plentiful field to plow.

When a person says that he (she) will vote for the person not the party, be careful. They will vote for their party 90% of the time. Graham will do anything McCain will do.

    Ain’t that the truth!

(And apologies to our editor friend for the poor grammar. Sometimes it just sounds better!)

15 term Democrat being backed by 2 Repubs. Term limits have to start and it is time for the TEA PARTY to start on a plan to oust Graham now. Do not wait !!!!!!!!!
