DeMint stands for us, Graham … not so much

James S Rosen reporting at the Miami Herald:

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday recommended that the full Senate confirm Columbia, S.C., lawyer Mary Geiger Lewis as a federal district judge in a vote of confidence that could yet run aground on partisan opposition. — WASHINGTON — The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday recommended that the full Senate confirm Columbia, S.C., lawyer Mary Geiger Lewis as a federal district judge in a vote of confidence that could yet run aground on partisan opposition.

Lewis’s fellow South Carolinian, Sen. Lindsey Graham, was the only Republican who supported her, joining 10 Democrats in the judiciary panel’s 11-6 vote.

Graham, of a Seneca, S.C., didn’t speak at the committee hearing and said afterward only that he’s confident the Senate will confirm Lewis.

But in a highly unusual stance for a home-state senator, Sen. Jim DeMint said after the committee vote that he will oppose Lewis, casting her confirmation in doubt.

DeMint, who voted last fall for two Obama judicial choices from South Carolina, said he’s now rejecting all of the president’s nominees to protest his winter recess appointments of four controversial nominees to avoid GOP opposition.

“President Obama has shown a complete disdain for the people’s elected representatives and our duty to advise and consent on nominations,” DeMint told McClatchy.

“Unless he revokes his unprecedented recess appointments that defied the constitutional role of Congress, I don’t intend to support any of his judicial nominees this year,” DeMint said.

DeMint was, however, willing to return the so-called ‘blue slip’ for Lewis that home-state senators may withhold from the Judiciary Committee.

By policy, the committee will not move forward on a nominating hearing unless both senators from the nominee’s home state return the slips — though doing so does not commit a senator to supporting the nominee, according to the committee.

DeMint’s stance on Lewis once again puts him and Graham at odds over an Obama judicial nominee. Graham voted to confirm the president’s two Supreme Court choices, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, while DeMint voted against them. Both women now sit on the high court.

So while RINO Graham CONTINUES to rubber stamp the illegal actions of a Marxist Obama, DeMint says “enough.”

SC is so ashamed.

CALL Jim DeMint’s office today and thank him for standing between you and tyranny.

  1. Questionman - March 9, 2012

Not only are you a mentally damaged racist, but a disgusting disgrace of an American!
It’s obvious you’re a racist, because according to you anyone who doesn’t think your way or isn’t a white, racist conservative like you is evil! No. Sorry, but the REAL racist bigoted a-hole here is YOU!
If he’s a “marxist”, why hasn’t he governed as one? What exactly is marxist or socialist about restoring Clinton-era tax levels, giving the insurance companies MORE customers by law, Bailing out huge corporations, etc? Seriously, name one true marxist-socialist thing he has done. And no, the fact that he allotted tax dollars to pay for something you abhor DOESN’T COUNT!
the President is not a Marxist, womanizer, or dishonest business partner.

Can you anti-American birthers, baggers and buffoons ever stay on topic, or is that what ‘they’ teach you in teabagging extremism 101?
…..you rabid republicans are the true anti-American haters, no matter how you want to spin it with your fox/rush propaganda! Stop calling this President a divider. Nothing worse than a President being slandered by hypocrites!

And for the last freaking time! Obama is NOT a muslim, he is a Christian because he isn’t a disrespectful racist, bigot, homophoic scumbag like spouts bigoted crap against any religion that aren’t dominated by racist bigoted KKK members like you!
Of course, that won’t matter to the people who thinks the President who lied to us into two unwanted wars for oil and WMDs is the greatest president there is!

Wow! What delightful commentary! If Questionman is quite finished with his temper tantrum, perhaps he might consider that the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are still the founding documents on which thinking citizens base their liberties and rights. And, since this President and his administration have not done anything to actually improve the economy, help with energy supply, or create a more free society, I don’t support him. Oh, and I closed my business in 2010. Need I say more?

Thank you Questionman! I sometimes wonder how much Liberals hold back from us.

  4. AnswerMan - March 10, 2012

Questionman is clearly a staunch President Obama supporter. That’s his right. Unfortunately, he’s also clearly either misinformed, ignorant of the facts, or critical thinking-challenged.

He’s also apparently unable to stay on topic. Please re-read the original post and point out where it refers to anything in the article regarding the President’s race, treatment of women, birth, citizenship, position on homosexuality, religion, or foreign policy.

However, it is true the commentary accompanying the article (but not the article itself) does refer to the President’s governing ideology as Marxist. While one can intellectually argue whether that label is accurate, I suggest Answerman grab a dictionary, a copy of the Declaration of Independence, a copy of the U.S. Constitution, a decent U.S. history book, and do a little objective research and perhaps critically analyze President Obama’s unconstitutional actions.

And, for the record, Answerman, I think Washington was our greatest President (although Reagan is right up there). My read of U.S. history does not show anything about leading us into two wars, WMDs, oil, etc.

Please, Answerman, lay off the inane and morally and intellectually bankrupt talking points from the left. You’re only further hurting yourself.

    Critical thinking is not bigotry.

  5. Carol Martin - March 10, 2012

Mr. Questionman, what makes you think that all tea party members supported the Iraq War and former President Bush?
Our family’s six votes in 2004 and 2008 were cast for the presidential candidate of the Constitution Party, which in 2008 was Pastor Chuck Baldwin. We now support Ron Paul!

As to whether Obama is a Christian, I would question how someone could sit and listen to hate from his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, for twenty years and then pretend to be surprised when Wright was exposed!

    Give me a break!

  6. Neil Martin - March 10, 2012

People should be judged not by what they say, but by what they do!

  7. Stan C - March 10, 2012

“Racist” is the first cry of someone who can’t win the ideological argument. Obama hasn’t governed as a Marxist because of checks and balances designed into our government. The only reason Obamacare did not constitute a total takeover of health care by the government is that he couldn’t even get that one past the Democrats! God knows he tried, though. Call it socialism, call it Marxism call it what you will it was and is an unconstitutional expansion of federal government even in the form he was able to get by his own party.

As for “on topic” did you bother to read your own post? There is NOTHING in the article about skin color. There is neither anything about muslim nor is there anything about Christian. There is nothing about KKK. There is nothing about womanizer or dishonest business partner.

There is nothing about his birth certificate. There is nothing about “divider”. There is nothing about “fox/rush”. There is nothing about “hate”. There is nothing about homosexuality or abortion. And finally there is nothing about the prior president being great or dismal.

As for mentally damaged, do you realize you managed a 4-paragraph “response” to an article without addressing anything contained in the article? And managed to call your president a member of a group you consider racist, bigoted, homophobic KKK scumbags? You call him a Christian then go on to say that’s what Christians are!

  8. Roger M. - March 11, 2012

I would say that you are all mistaken about questionman. I would say that based on his little temper tantrum that he is: (1)On welfare and unemployment and is at peace with his muslim brother donating to his favorite charity each month, that charity being this disgusting, misinformed individual. As far as our resident Kenyan being a christian, nobama has stated that he was raised as a muslim and the koran states that “once a muslim, always a muslim”, and anyone attempting to convert will have his/her life taken…..as we can all see nobama is clearly still alive.
As far as his Marxist, crooked, lying background, please consider: 1)First president (I use the term president loosely here) to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in….2)first pres to preside over a cut to the credit rating of the US….3)1st pres to violate the War Powers Act….4)First pres to be held in contempt-of- court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico….5)First pres to defy a Federal judges court order…..6)First pres to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters…..7)first pres to order a secret amnestyprogram to stop the deportation of illegal immigrants, including those with criminal convictions…….8)first pres to tolerate RACIAL discrimination and intimidation at polling places……9)first pres first pres to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it…..10)to tell a major manufacturing company in which state they are allowed to locate a factory…..11)to file lawsuits in states he swore an oath to protect[AZ,WI,OH,IN]….and dozens of other incidents that show his true color…..If questionman would like to discuss these and the many other derelection/unconstitutional items that nobama has been responsible for in his first three years, I will be happy to discuss them with him/her. Roger M.

Wow, I think Questionmann replied to the wrong commentary. Maybe he hit the wrong key. That’s it. What else would explain such a totally gutter and childish response. Mr. Questionmann, please, please do not play into the hands of those trying so hard to divide America, unless, of course, your are not an American. If you are and American, please show more grace and integrity and do not be tricked into falling into the gutter with the politicians.
