Today’s post is on School Choice: Part 2

Raise your hand if you want this school choice bill discussed in Part 1 passed in SC.

Very good.

Raise your hand if you have personally contacted your state senator and representative and asked them about supporting / co-sponsoring this school choice bill.

Hmmmmm. Not as many hands.

‘Cause I tell ya … the TEACHERS and the TEACHERS UNIONS are contacting YOUR senators and representatives and you know how that goes. The vote may hang on who is more passionate about letting our legislators know what they want. Last night I attended the Spartanburg Delegation meeting and heard a member of the League of Women Voters read off a piece of paper a plea to the delegation to NOT support school choice, filled with platitudes like “give our children the Valentine they deserve” and “put your attention to an issue that is really a problem, not a made up issue like Voter ID”. Yep. Said it. But the point is … she was there making the plea. Now anyone can get on the agenda to speak to the Delegation, and their next meeting is Monday, May 2, 2011. Presentation requests are to be submitted, in writing, to the Delegation Office no later than Monday, April 18, 2011. The address is 366 North Church Street, Suite 1210, Spartanburg, South Carolina.

But don’t wait until then. After the meeting last night I went up to my Senator Lee Bright who is a CO-SPONSOR of the school choice bill and thanked him. Then I asked, “Who else here is helping with this?” He told me as far as he knows, he is the only member of the Spartanburg Delegation on board with this bill.

Tea Party … here it is right in front of us. Will you speak up? Or will you let the voice of the teachers unions be more powerful then yours, and be the voice the legislators hear from?

If you think you need some help understanding the SC school choice bill before you call your legislator you can contact Chad Connelly at Chad@Freedomtide.com or Kerry Wood at me@kerrywood.com and leave them a phone # where they can reach you. Both gentlemen will be happy to help you understand the bill, and encourage you to contact your legislators. (If you are not in Spartanburg and read this, this is ALSO for you!)

AND … contact Lee Bright NOW and thank him for his support!

It would help a lot if the bill number were included in the writeup.
