Freedom Fund … Start Now!

In order to put conservative candidates into office locally, statewide, and nationally we have to defeat some incumbents who have the benefit of campaign funding from sources new candidates do not have … lobbyists, PACS, the GOP … you know the drill by now. This past primary cycle we saw some Citizen Patriots take on RINO incumbents and come up short because they just couldn’t hang with the funding. Lesson learned.

BTW for an eye-opening and educational look at incumbent campaign funding, visit the ICAUCUS site and watch Article II, Parts 1 and 2.

So I’m sharing an idea from our friend Harry Kibler over at RINOHUNT about what he’s calling the “Freedom Fund”

It’s a simple premise … similar to a Christmas Club. You know you want to support a candidate in November, or during the next round of primaries. You may not know WHO that candidate will be yet, but you know you’ll be working toward the election of one or more conservative candidates. We KNOW they will need funding from us, the grassroots in order to compete financially with whatever incumbent currently holds that office. Determine now how much you want to donate to that candidate and begin saving now. Figure out an amount, count how many months between now and the date that candidate will file for office, and put away funds monthly so that on the day after that candidate files, you can give them EARLY MONEY! that will allow them to jump into their campaign full speed ahead. That early money will allow them to gain name recognition quickly and because of the peculiarities of campaign funding, your early money will draw other early money to your candidate.

Tea parties are learning. We have a HUGE gap in the “how to’s” because many of us have not been engaged before now, but we are learning fast. Some efforts are huge and take lots of time and energy, putting together a Freedom Fund is relatively simple and straight forward, but can be crucial for the next round of elections.

There are other truths on things needed to get “new” conservatives in office:

    A. We must encourage candidates to step forward early – like a year or more before a primary election – announce their candidacy and start building a base of support. Time to work a process can reduce the need for “big money” for last minute TV, Radio and other advertising of a candidate’s candidacy.

    B. We cannot be silent. We cannot wait on someone else. We must seek a candidate and seek to become a supporter. Then, as supporters for the candidate, we must be “actively involved” early in helping to grow that base of support among our friends, relatives and others we meet.

    C. A plan for grass roots “cottage meetings” and “meet-ups” with the candidate must be followed religiously by all of the supporters and it must include:
1). multiple meetings called with family. friends by each person in the base of support. Meetings sought to be held at shop-keepers places of business. Meetings sought to be held at civic, religious, fraternal and other group locations.
2). requests at those meetings by a member of the support base for those attending to sign up as an active supporter.
3). requests at those meetings for small donations (the thought being a couple of dollars will come from those who will be faithful).
4). requests at those meetings for others to volunteer to hold meetings.
5). to avoid disorganized and fractured groups supporting multiple candidates and the likely failure at the polls, everyone in the support base needs especially to seek membership in and encourage other grass roots organziations to form a coalition within a voting district with a promise to support only one candidate in each primary election.
