*Action Item* Health Care Discharge Petition

Erick Erickson at Redstate explains what a discharge petition is and gives us the scoop on Congressman Steve King (R-IA) and his efforts to use it to repeal Obamacare.

There’s this thing in the United States House of Representatives called a “discharge petition.” In a nutshell, a congressman can write a bill and, when the leaders in charge of the House refuse to do anything with it, the congressman can file a discharge petition. The petition, if personally signed by 218 congressmen, forces the House Speaker to put the matter up for a vote by the House.

The Heritage Foundation recently held a chat with King where he outlined his efforts. Embedded in that chat are some links you can use to build your knowledge, including one which shows which Representatives have signed the Discharge Petition.

The effort involves going Rep by Rep and calling their office, asking them to sign onto this Discharge Petition. This week … call (202) 225-2815 and ask Eric Cantor to sign on.
