Upcountry Coalition Thanks Floyd Following SCGOP Inaction
June 30, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—The Coalition thanks the SCGOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd for making it crystal clear where the problems lie in South Carolina politics.

At the quarterly meeting of the Executive Committee on Saturday there was no mention of the racist comments made by Senator Jake Knotts, comments which drew negative national attention. The GOP platform clearly states: “We ask all to join us in rejecting the forces of hatred and bigotry and in denouncing all who practice or promote racism, anti-Semitism, ethnic prejudice, or religious intolerance.” Instead, there were numerous calls for Party unity.

“Although the SCGOP cannot sponsor or enact legislation, they do have an obligation to uphold the Party Platform,” said Harry Kibler, founder of the RINO HUNT.

The Coalition hoped action would be taken to reject the racist remarks of Senator Knotts and possibly expel him from the SCGOP. Instead, a wall of protection was built around Knotts during a closed subcommittee meeting prior to the general meeting.

Coalition Chairman Jonathon Hill described what happened as being “all too similar to the backroom deals of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama.”

Ronald Reagan was a great conservative and did not need to take a poll in order to decide what was right and wrong. If Chairwoman Floyd is not capable of making a decision on an issue as simple as blatant racism, she should step down from her position and allow someone with true grit and superior character to lead the South Carolina Republican Party.

Trent Lott/Kay Hagan

June 30, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National

Ben Howe has a scathing post that is one of the best tangible examples of the biased media. It is a “mock up” of a real article (cited at the bottom of his post) comparing Trent Lott’s Thurmond remarks to Hagan’s Byrd remarks.

Go read the post, it is worth a full look.

And then, just because, take a minute and call Lapdog Graham and tell him what you think of Elena Kagan. No it has nothing to do with the Lott/Hagan post here, but there can’t be too many reminders to make that call.

*Action Item* Health Care Discharge Petition

June 29, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National

Erick Erickson at Redstate explains what a discharge petition is and gives us the scoop on Congressman Steve King (R-IA) and his efforts to use it to repeal Obamacare.

There’s this thing in the United States House of Representatives called a “discharge petition.” In a nutshell, a congressman can write a bill and, when the leaders in charge of the House refuse to do anything with it, the congressman can file a discharge petition. The petition, if personally signed by 218 congressmen, forces the House Speaker to put the matter up for a vote by the House.

The Heritage Foundation recently held a chat with King where he outlined his efforts. Embedded in that chat are some links you can use to build your knowledge, including one which shows which Representatives have signed the Discharge Petition.

The effort involves going Rep by Rep and calling their office, asking them to sign onto this Discharge Petition. This week … call (202) 225-2815 and ask Eric Cantor to sign on.

Dodd-Frank Finance Bill

June 29, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National

The ever entertaining and always informative Moe Lane at Redstate gives us the rundown on the current vote count for the finance bill.

Very Interesting! The dynamics of Scott Brown added to Byrd’s death, entwined with the fact that West Virginia is a coal state, mixed with the “will he/won’t he” speculation of whether Gov .Manchin will appoint an interim Senator or hold special elections.

Invitation from ICaucus *UPDATED TO CORRECT DATE*

June 29, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Tea Party

An exciting opportunity has developed for conservative activists to meet with and listen to Frank Anderson speak in Greenville, SC on Thursday July 29 at 7 PM.

Greenville County Library System
25 Heritage Green Place
Greenville, SC 29601

The event will be held at the Greenville Library – Main Branch downtown Greenville and is limited to 50 people. All persons involved in the Upcountry Conservative Coalition have been invited to attend to hear Mr. Anderson Speak about Independence Caucus and how to win elections. He will be speaking specifically about how Jason Chaffetz defeated a six term GOP Rino in Utah in the 2008 election even though Congressman Chaffetz had only a fraction of the funding expended by the Big Money Machine advertising made available to the “prostituted” incumbents who are feeding at the pig trough in Washington DC. Big Money is the means by which elections are won these days and is the reason 94% of incumbents win re-election term after term. Millions are spent on elections these days. Frank Anderson will explain how to win with minimal funding.

If you are actively involved and exasperated with the situation but willing to put a little effort into getting “progressives and liberals, both Democrats and Republicans, out of office, make plans to attend this event. \ e:mail to confirm your seat for attendance:

Bizarre Animated Climate King Gore Story

June 28, 2010 By: admin Category: National

Posted on YouTube by Next Media News:

“Former US vice president and climate change warrior Al Gore is in hot water after news emerged this week of a 2006 close encounter with a hotel masseuse in Oregon. In a statement made to Portland police reported in the press, the 54-year-old masseuse recounted how she repeatedly had to fight off groping Gore as he made several attempts to bed her after she attended his hotel suite to administer a massage. So far, no charges have been filed.”

*Action Alert* … Voter ID TOMORROW!

June 28, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: State

Tomorrow is our chance to ensure the security of our voting system!

Throughout the year, Republican activists across the state have been pushing for a simple but important bill, one that would make showing a photo ID mandatory when a person votes.

We have to have a photo ID when we drive, open a bank account, or get on an airplane – shouldnt it be required for something as fundamental to our Democracy as voting?

The state House of Representatives passed a strong bill this year. Unfortunately, despite having a substantial Republican majority in the state Senate, Republicans there could not muster enough votes to kill a Democratic filibuster of the bill.

The state Executive Committee took a strong stand in calling out those Senators, unanimously passing a resolution calling them out by name – Senators Leatherman, Knotts, Rankin and O´Dell.

WE NEED YOUR HELP – tomorrow we have a chance to push this bill past the finish line.

Call these Senators, as well as any other Republican Senators nearby, and tell them they MUST take a vote on Voter ID tomorrow.

Republicans across the state are watching!

Senator Hugh Leatherman – (803) 212-6640

Senator Jake Knotts – (803) 212-6350

Senator Luke Rankin – (803) 212-6132

Senator Billy O´Dell — (803) 212-6040

And find your Senator´s number here:

heh. Arizona boycotts have consequences

June 28, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National

Daniel B. Wood writing at the Christian Science Monitor explains why it is WAY easier to call for a boycott than to actually participate in one.

Here are a few examples Danial cites:

The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday granted itself an exemption to the city’s boycott of Arizona to keep a red light photo enforcement program operating. The program generates about $3.6 million in annual ticket revenue for the city. The day before, Oakland voted to approve a $1 million contract with a multinational advertising company with corporate offices in Phoenix.

So all the hoorah of all these uber liberal cities, counties, municipalities about how they “are not going to support this racist law!” dwindles under the reality of CAPITALISM!!!

gotta love it.
