Upcountry Coalition Primary Election Blitz!

May 30, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Tea Party

Approximately 15 organizations are members of the Upcountry Coalition of Conservative Organizations, and this Saturday … spanning three counties … the member organizations are planning a “work day” for any volunteers who would like to help a local or statewide candidate.

Primary election day is upon us and it’s time to get out the VOTE and help your favorite candidates get elected. Primary elections are the voters chance to make sure we have the best representation possible! We will have representatives from all the federal, state and local conservative campaigns on location to equip you with all the materials needed to help promote your favorite conservative candidates to the public! We need volunteers to canvass neighborhoods, put up signs, hand out literature and make phone calls. A great time will be had by all!

There will be a meet up place in Anderson, Greenville, and Spartanburg counties, and conservative candidates are invited to send a representative and campaign materials to these sites. The Spartanburg site is the empty parking lot behind the McDonalds right off Interstate 85 in Boiling Springs on Highway 9.

If you would like to spend the day waving a sign, making phone calls, handing out literature for a candidate YOU choose to support, please meet at the Spartanburg site at 9:00 am. You may choose which candidate or candidates you’d like to volunteer for. We will have precinct lists to help you know where to go if you want to hand out literature, and candidates will provider literature and yard signs. This is our last opportunity to make a difference in voters’ minds before the June 8 primary! Hope to see you on Highway 9 Saturday at 9:00 AM!

Tonight in Arizona there is a Rally supporting the Arizona Immigration Law, over 2000 folks are viewing it online at:

While I’m watching this VERY encouraging event, I thought I’d look up some websites with information about companies in Arizona you can patronize online and show your financial support for Arizona businesses. As you may know, the lefties are calling for BOYCOTTS of Arizona and Arizona corporations. These sites will give you information on how you can BUYCOTT!

Economic Freedom Group Endorses a Pro Business Candidate for House 17

The South Carolina Club for Growth Political Action Committee has endorsed Tom Corbin for House District 17 in his run against incumbent Harry Cato.

SC Club for Growth released this statement: “SC Club for Growth PAC proudly endorses Tom Corbin for House District 17. Tom will be an outstanding representative for Greenville County – working diligently to cut taxes, prevent government waste, and fix our broken government.”

The incumbent, Harry Cato, recently received a grade of “F” from the organization.

“After a couple of interviews and thoughtful consideration, they chose to endorse my campaign and I genuinely appreciate it. I hope the voters will also see fit to endorse me at the ballot box on June 8th and give me the opportunity to serve them,” stated Corbin.

OK gets referendum vote in Nov on Health Care

May 27, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Uncategorized

Peter J. Smith at LifeSiteNews.com writes about Oklahoma voters being able to vote in November about the Health Care Bill.

The state’s House of Representatives approved Senate Joint Resolution 59 with a strong bipartisan majority of 88-9. SJR 59 allows citizens to vote up or down a state constitutional amendment that would prohibit “forced participation in a health care system,” and allow individuals to pay directly for health services and carry private health insurance.

The state’s pro-abortion Democratic governor, Brad Henry, objected… thanks OK legislature for putting this before the people!

SC… SC … are you watching?

May 26, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Tea Party

Loathe as I am to post an MSNBC link, I like this story of Tea Party patriots successfully supporting and gaining conservative victories across the nation instead of establishment supported candidates.

The Hampton Roads Tea Party endorsed businessman Ben Loyala over auto dealer Scott Rigell, establishment Republicans’ favored candidate. The activists said they rejected Rigell because his auto dealership participated in the taxpayer-funded Cash for Clunkers program that was part of Obama’s economic stimulus plan.

District 1 … this is your guy … action please!

Jackie Kucinich writing at Roll Call has an article naming four Republicans who have said they will submit requests for earmarks despite the Republicans’ self-imposed yearlong earmark moratorium. Sadly, SC’s Henry Brown of District 1 is one of those four.

Boehner warned the conference that Members who fail to remove their earmark requests from the bill risk losing their committee assignments next year.

“If you don’t withdraw your requests, it will be a matter for the Steering Committee to consider,” the Ohio Republican told Members during a closed-door meeting of the House Republican Conference last week, according to several GOP sources inside the room.

Sounds like a vague, weak threat. Typically wishy washy from Republican leadership. District 1 … it’s up to you to let Henry Brown know how you feel about his spending.

Oh. And Ron Paul was another of the four, following his pattern of asking for earmarks so he can tell his constituents he’s working for them, while voting against the bills containing those earmark requests to preserve his reputation of small govt/less spending. Ug.

Latest on Transparency Bill

May 26, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: State

Update from Talbert Black on SC Transparency Bill:

Today, the Senate voted to adjourn early in order to block a motion to recall H3047 from committee. H3047 is the bill that will require each Senator to record how they vote on every new law that is passed and on every section of the budget. Most Senators want to avoid voting against H3047 directly by voting on procedural motions to keep the bill from being considered. They think they can hide their opposition to transparency behind a procedural vote.

Today, Senator David Thomas told the Senate he intended to make a motion to recall H3047 from committee. However, Larry Martin moved to adjourn before the motion could be made. The Senate voted 27-17 to adjourn. Let Senator Thomas know you appreciate his intentions, but next time it might be better if he doesn’t warn the Senate leadership before hand.

Remind your Senator that any vote that keeps this bill from passing un-amended is a vote against the bill itself. Look at the list below and if your Senator voted to block the motion to recall H3047 by adjourning then contact him and hold him accountable for voting against transparency. The Senate should not have adjourned before the motion to recall H3047 could be made by Senator David Thomas. We need to make sure the Senate knows we are serious about holding them accountable for every vote that prevents this bill from passing! If your Senator voted against adjournment, let him know that you appreciate his vote, and let him know that you will be watching him on all future votes. Don’t let him think that one good vote is enough. He needs to be voting on the right side every single step of the way. This is likely a test to see if we are still watching and if we really will hold them accountable for using procedural votes to keep the bill from being heard.

Senator Larry Martin made a motion to adjourn the Senate for the day. I’ve never seen the Senate adjourn before the motion period. This was clearly a tactic to prevent anyone from making the motion to recall H3047. In fact, when Senator Larry Martin made the motion to adjourn and before the vote was taken on his motion, Senator David Thomas made sure that the entire Senate knew that adjourning would prevent them from considering H3047. A role call on the motion to adjourn was demanded by Senators Thomas and Shane Martin. The vote to adjourn passed 27 – 17. The results are below. Make sure you contact your Senator and hold him accountable if he voted to adjourn. If he voted against adjourning, tell him thanks and make sure you remind him that any vote that prevents this bill from passing will be counted as a vote against the bill itself.

Voting to adjourn (and to block the motion to recall H3047):

Alexander
Anderson
Campbell
Campsen
Cleary
Coleman
Hayes
Hutto
Jackson
Knotts
Land
Leatherman
Leventis
Lourie
Malloy
Martin, Larry
McConnell
McGill
Nicholson
O’Dell
Pinckney
Rankin
Reese
Scott
Setzler
Sheheen
Williams

Voting not to adjourn

Bright
Bryant
Courson
Cromer
Davis
Elliott
Fair
Grooms
Martin, Shane
Massey
Mulvaney
Peeler
Rose
Ryberg
Shoopman
Thomas
Verdin

Please, contact your Senator and hold him accountable for voting to block the motion to recall H3047 by adjourning and ask him to demand an immediate recall of H3047, the true transparency bill!

Somedays I just want to hug this man

It seems Allahpundit over at Hot Air is ALSO a Chris Christie Fan.

Christie keeps calling ‘em out and slapping ‘em down. His response to a teacher complaining about not being compensated for her education and experience …

“Well, you know then that you don’t have to do it. Your union said that is the greatest assault on public education in the history of the state. That’s why the union has no credibility, stupid statements like that.”
