*Action Item* Dastardly Doings in Columbia

April 29, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: State

This is what the liberty movement is all about, citizens letting their representatives know what they want. IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN, please go to Columbia next Wednesday morning, and contact your representative this week!!!

From Talbert Black Jr.
Dear Friend of South Carolina,

First, the Senate sub-committee hearing on H3047 is scheduled for Wednesday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m. in room 308 of the Gressette building.

We need you to pack the room… standing room only! You need to be there! It is likely that this bill will be voted down at this hearing. But, we need to make sure the members of this subcommittee and the rest of the Senate know that we will not give up on this bill. They need to know that we are watching.

Next, an apology to Senator Cromer and Senator Shane Martin. They were absent on Thursday, the day of the motion to recall H3047. The Senate journal for Thursday did not show them excused and absent for the day. However, after being alerted that they were absent that day, I checked the journal entries for Tuesday and Wednesday. The entry for these days show that they were excused for Thursday. I am still learning how to navigate through the journals and didn’t realize that a Senator could be recorded in advance for being absent in the future.

The Garnet Spy has picked up our video montage of the debate. Please follow this link and give him some traffic as a way of saying thanks! If you haven’t yet, you need to see this video montage showing Senators McConnell, Larry Martin, and Knotts leading the fight to kill H3047. H3047 is the bill that will require the Senate and House to record how each representative votes on every law they pass. Currently, less than 25% of all their votes are recorded!

Then you will see why you are needed at the subcommittee hearing, scheduled for Wednesday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m. in room 308 of the Gressette building. Again, my sincere apology goes out to Shane Martin and Ronnie Cromer!

Here is a list of “sponsors” of the bill who did not stand up with Davis and Peeler. Three were recorded as absent that day.

Cromer (was absent) – CromerR@scsenate.org
Massey – ShaneMassey@scsenate.org
Bryant – BryantK@scsenate.org
Fair – FairM@scsenate.org
Ryberg – SLC@scsenate.org
Hayes – set@scsenate.org
Campbell (was absent) – PaulCampbell@scsenate.org
Mulvaney – MulvaneyM@scsenate.org
Rose – MikeRose@scsenate.org
Rankin – LR@scsenate.org
Courson – EDU@scsenate.org
Thomas – SBI@scsenate.org
Alexander – SGE@scsenate.org
Cleary – ClearyR@scsenate.org
Bright – LeeBright@scsenate.org
Campsen – Campsen@scsenate.org
Shoopman – ShoopmanP@scsenate.org
S. Martin (was absent) – ShaneMartin@scsenate.org
Sheheen – VS@scsenate.org
Elliott – DE@scsenate.org
Lourie – JBL@scsenate.org

Thanks for all you are doing to defend liberty and freedom in South Carolina! Please call your Senator and tell him to support H3047 and to support a recall of the bill from committee!

You can find your Senator and his contact information by clicking here and entering your zip code.

Best regards,
Talbert Black, Jr.

Say Anything Blog has a short piece on an Official Request For Opinion On Recalling A US Senator.

I know about 10,000 tea party, 912, and other liberty organization members in SC who will work their fingers to the BONE gathering signatures the SECOND someone figures out a way to start a recall on Lindsey Graham.

C’mon? Isn’t there ANYONE with chops to do this in the entire state?

medical costs will skyrocket … well DUH!

April 27, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National

Jim Hoft, posting at the Gateway Pundit writes about what we ALL knew

A damning health care report generated by actuaries at the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department was given to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius more than a week before the health care vote. She hid the report from the public until a month after democrats rammed their nationalized health care bill through Congress.

The report released by Medicare and Medicaid actuaries shows that medical costs will skyrocket rising $389 billion 10 years. 14 million will lose their employer-based coverage. Millions of Americans will be left without insurance. And, millions more may be dumped into the already overwhelmed Medicaid system. 4 million American families will be hit with tax penalties under this new law.

There is a link at the bottom of the article where you can see the actual report.

This is a fascinating look at the history, writing, and contents of the United States Constitution. Even if you consider yourself familiar with the Constitution, you will learn much from this fascinating, detailed look at the document which is the Supreme Law of the land and to which our elected officials are sworn to protect.

Thomas Jefferson once said, “No nation is permitted to live in ignorance with impunity.” Our founders understood that freedom cannot survive without an educated and informed populace.

Please RSVP for this event. Bring your children also. You can’t afford to miss this!

Graham cap and trade protest … hmmm … coincidence?

April 26, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National, State, Tea Party

FreedomWorks has an article (with pictures) about the simultaneous protests at Graham’s office across SC this weekend.

Coincidentally??? … over the weekend Graham withdrew his support of the new cap and trade bill.
Thank you patriots across SC! and special thanks to a few folks we know here in the Upstate who protested at Graham’s Greenville office.

So. Do you think they can hear us now?

Cleaning up the AZ Border … Literally

April 26, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National

Michelle Malkin’s site has a first person account and video of members of Smart Girl Politics actually cleaning up the AZ border.

It was done in tribute to slain rancher Robert Krentz, and is an innovative way to get involved in local, grassroots politics.

Squeaky Wheels or Rolling Thunder

April 25, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: National

Vassar Bushmills over at Redstate has written another scorchingly brilliant post. This time it is an admonition to “keep your shoulders squared and move forward with determination” for the Governor and people of Arizona.

I held my breath the other day as the time came close for Governor Jan Brewer’s decision to sign or not sign the new Arizona immigration bill. So many times this year we’ve come SO CLOSE to something really amazing happening. Yes we did have the Scott Brown victory, and then Virginia and New Jersey. But when it came down to legislation, we’ve not been so fortunate. Obama keeps signing exec orders, and congress keeps passing disastrous and dangerous bills. And the states, while making some noise have really not yet passed anything of consequence, anything that has made an immediate difference. So while things looked cautiously optimistic in AZ, I didn’t want to get my hopes up. and then … YAY!

So now, two things. One … will the folks in Arizona, and even the nation at large IGNORE the “yapping dogs” as Vassar has written about. And two … will there be the same courage in other states, and particularly here in our state, to write and pass similar legislation.

We are the rolling thunder, and our legislators and governor should begin hearing us roar NOW.

Cap and Trade protest at Graham office Saturday in Greenville

April 21, 2010 By: Karen Martin Category: Uncategorized

From FreedomWorks …

As you probably know by now, Senator Graham (R-SC) has teamed up with Senators Kerry (D-MA) and Liebermann (I-CT) to unveil their own version of cap-and-trade in sheep’s clothing next week. This new energy tax bill was crafted over months behind closed doors, and only special interest lobbyists could pry out any details.

What we do know is this: making energy more expensive hurts the economy, sends jobs overseas, and all for negligible environmental benefit. We also know it is clear that poor and middle class taxpayers aren’t among the big corporations that are getting any special favors or subsidies and will be hit hardest by plans like a “Fuels’ Fee” that tacks on 27 cents per gallon of gasoline!

We need you to invite a friend and join us to protest this massive tax hike outside Senator Graham’s district offices all across South Carolina this Saturday, April 24 from 1pm- 2pm. These coordinated protests should send a resounding “NO!” to Graham and make him think twice before he gets behind this bill next week.

Here’s where to be :

Upstate Regional Office: 130 South Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601 (864) 250-1417
